I'm (web mistress) proud to announce that Marlene is this month's cover artist for the Animal World publication! You can read the article here.

Way to go Marlene!

In the hope of making this site a good presentation of my art, I will try to also provide my visitors some information about the animals that inspire my subjects.  I will try to add a link to information about each animal represented, where you may go and receive the details of these wondrous animals. Navigation is provided at both the left, and bottom of each page.

            A little about me!

I was born and raised in the United States, in the greater Toledo, Ohio area with two siblings, an older sister, and younger brother. We were a low-income family with very few extras. A pencil and paper were a leisure item to me and I felt very fortunate to have them! I always had a special bond with animals and loved to draw them, which explains my subject choice. While in junior high, I had one of my works entered in a contest at the City Council building, which remained displayed there for a time. Later, my school had Art Fairs I always participated in, and did quite well. As a result, my high school displayed one of my watercolors depicting their school mascot in their main hall for years.

I took every art class available in my school years, and was offered an art scholarship my senior year. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, I chose not to go to college and instead joined the work force. I’ve had a wide variety of jobs, one of which produced the condition called Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. Having to have surgery on my right hand, and suffering nerve damaged in that hand, I was told I would never be able to work again, or do what I loved, my art. I always liked to be the different one, and was determined to prove them wrong! After years of determination I was able to once again go back to work, and resume creating some art. To this day I still have to limit my amount of hand activity, but I’m doing what I love.

Now I spend my days at home with my husband’s support, pursuing my dream. My daughter has always encouraged me to do something with my art, besides giving it away as gifts. So taking her advice, and with my husband’s help and encouragement, (and my sister’s guidance, help, and support) I now have dreams of someday being an artist worth the talent God has given me.

I currently work in a variety of media types, including but not limited to, pastel chalks, acrylics (on canvas and as a wash), and ceramic plates.

I started displaying my art to the public in 2002, and was inspired to joined the Toledo Artist Club, and create my web site. I've had a couple of displays at the Artist Club so far, and am also pursuing many other avenues. I work many more hours now than I ever did, but I love every minute of it!

If you have any comments about my art, or would like me to create something for you, please feel free to contact me!
